Rotherham Floods

The second week of my job at the GA started very pleasantly with a meeting with some of the folks at RIDO: the Rotherham Investment and Development Office.
Their role is very much to support local business, but they have made some innovative use of Google Maps and Google Earth.

They were very kind with the resources that they let me have, including plenty of images and materials relating to the 2007 floods. We also discussed the WAVERLEY development, which coincidentally I passed on the way home the following day.
This is a huge planned development on the site of the former ORGREAVE works, near Treeton.
Here is a PLAN.
The idea is to have a brand new SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY (this weblink has the most comprehensive material on the ambitious plans...)

I've been driving past a slowly changing industrial landscape on the Parkway for the last 20 odd years, so look forward to seeing how it develops.

Many thanks to Andrew, Dean and Tom at RIDO.

Thanks for the thanks. All RiDO's geography resources are at the RiDO website
The Waverley planning application is now available online at the council's website
Or if you don't have time to read through the 50 sections, there's a presentation at the Chamber's website

No problem Tom.
Thanks for adding the additional links - I'll follow the development of Waverley for the long term...
