If not, you are missing the chance to follow fascinating folk and interesting organisations.

James Reynolds - Typhoon Fury... @TyphoonFury on Twitter has recently visited the disaster scene of the Japanese tsunami, and has been posting affecting images and video of the relief and recovery efforts...
Amazing classroom resources with no distracting graphics, music and commentary...

Please can you blog / direct me to a simple guide to twitter ? I don't have an internet enabled phone. Lots of geographers seem to be very enthusiastic about using it for CPD. How do you ensure you can keep things private ?

Hi
Simple guide to Twitter
http://support.twitter.com/groups/31-twitter-basics
or watch this YouTube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddO9idmax0o
On my account settings I protect my tweets - this means that only people I moderate can see what I say..
Also, it's a broadcast medium so assume that anyone can see what you've said unless you send a direct message to a mutual follower/followee - Twitter only really starts to work when you follow people and start sharing with others... I know that if I want the answer to a question someone in my network will be able to answer it..

Thanks for the interest in LivingGeography :)

Thanks Geoblogs. I'll go away and do some reading / watching to find out more.

I'll need to think of a good geographical name. I do notice on some people's twitter that although they have used a nickname their real name does show up too - does protecting tweets prevent that ?

You choose the names to input when you create your account. Twitter suggests you use your real name on your profile, but you don't have to.
