Thwaites Glacier: Antarctica

The Thwaites glacier in Antarctica was in the news just before Christmas. There are worrying signs regarding its stability. The glacier is about the size of Germany, and if it was to melt it might lead to the collapse of parts of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS)

The news last week were reporting on the start of the two month expedition to survey the stability of the glacier using a remote vessel called Boaty McBoatface.

We are following the expedition with Year 8 groups.

There has beens some coverage in the BBC News as well.
