John Davitt's LEG as a gadget
Strange title for a post...
John Davitt is one of my education heroes: I first met him at a Teachmeet in 2007 I think, and have bumped into him a few times since. Before I met him, our names were linked as part of a series in the Guardian on Tuesdays called Brainstrust. A few of these are still online, such as here. (from 2005, amazingly)
He also came up with the concept of the LEARNING SCORE, which is the coolest lesson planning software there is.
His LEG is a Learning Event Generator.
John was kind enough to produce a geography specific learning event generator for my GeographyPages website some years ago, and it's been downloaded probably 8000 times since then.
He developed this into the RAG.
This is available as an iPhone app (which can also be viewed on the iPad...)
A Google Gadget is something that you put on your iGoogle home page, and there is now the option to add the LEG there, so that you're never short of an idea for what to do...

Go to work with an EGG...
Event Generator GreenThe latest of John Davitt's Learning Event Generators suggests lots of activities for ECO activities.
Go HERE to try it, and tweet @johndavitt with some further suggestions for DOs and WHILEs.
Need an idea ?
Try the Geography Event Generator !
Thanks to John Davitt for the original idea at his NEW TOOLS website, which is well worth a visit. I blogged about it last week...
I contacted John and sent him a set of 20 'geographically-related' ideas and possible ways of presenting the work, and he very kindly produced a custom-made GEOGRAPHY GENERATOR.
Press the button that says CLICK HERE, and you'll get a new idea for how to teach, or present a particular topic.
If you make use of this tool, e-mail and let me know...
Also, if you have ideas for other similar topics and/or methods of delivering them, please get in touch, or let John know direct, as he's collecting more ideas....
Why share this idea with you ?
Why create this new resource ?
One of the key aims of the Geographical Association lies in its mission to engage in "furthering the learning and teaching of geography". A key aspect of this is NETWORKING and sharing ideas between teachers. 2008 has seen a major move forward in the creation of new networks using the 2nd phase of the Action Plan for Geography funding.
Keep an eye out for events in your own region - this might be a GA BRANCH event, or one where local networks of teachers talk to each other...
