Over the years, I've done a few useful geography-related things with Ollie Bray. It's good to see that an eBook that he's writing which shows a range of Microsoft tools in action, and some quotes from familiar names in teaching and learning has now been made available.

You have a limited time to secure a place at the Microsoft UK Innovative Education Forum 2010

The 7th Microsoft Innovative Education Forum is a one-day conference, free of charge to all teachers and educators who wish to attend and will look to address the theme of ‘Connecting Learners, Connecting Teachers.’
This forum aims to connect Teachers with Teachers, Educators with Educators. Allowing you to share expertise and learn from each other. Giving insights into how you can connect your students with technology and connect them with their learning.
This year the Forum is being held at the Hilton Deansgate Hotel in Manchester on the 30th Nov.
We have a packed agenda with Keynote speakers at the event will be the world renowned Prof. Sugata Mitra famous for his ‘Hole in the wall’ project and Michael Furdyk CEO of the young person’s online community , Taking IT Global.
In addition, Delegates will be able to choose from a range of practical workshops covering areas such as using free software and Web 2.0 technology, games based learning and managing innovation in schools.

Also, find out who are Microsoft’s 2010 Award-Winning Innovative Educators. The awards will be presented at this event, to Teachers who have submitted projects that illustrate the innovative use of technology to enhance teaching and learning. Not only will they receive award recognition, but have the chance to be invited to The European Education Forum being held in Moscow next year. These project will be on display at the event.

Glastonbury 2010 2
I'm back from Glastonbury. Last week I was at the festival with fellow members of the Geography Collective. We had a marquee and offered 4 days of workshops and activities...
We liked this fairly recent BLOG POST from the Microsoft Innovative teacher network blog...
It included a good description of what we do:
The book, and forthcoming mobile app, incites adventurous play through a series of challenging missions. Playful ‘research’ is at the heart of each mission so that explorers get to grips with geography, politics, science, sociology, psychology, history, science, religion and other subjects in a provocative, fun and engaging way. Think of it as your own personal licence to explore that fits neatly into your back pocket! The Geography Collective is committed to getting the message out there, so much so that royalties from the book will be invested in free copies of Mission:Explore for deprived children.
Innovative Colleagues
One of the great things about my involvement with the GA even when I was still teaching was the chance to meet up with other colleagues who shared a passion for the subject.One opportunity for teachers to share their practice is through the Microsoft Innovative Teacher Network.
David Rogers is a member of the GA's Secondary Phase Committee. He is also part of the new team that will be editing the GA MAGAZINE.
I heard earlier today that he will be receiving an award at the event detailed above for his work on Pirates and Social Networking, which was featured in a Teachers TV resource.
