Progressive fieldwork opportunities for primary geography
Thursday 5 March 2026, in person (London), from £80
More info and book: https://www.rgs.org/events/upcoming-events/primary-geography-fieldwork-opportunities/
This practical and interactive training day addresses Ofsted’s 2024 findings that fieldwork and local area use are underdeveloped in many primary schools. Aimed at both new and experienced educators, it offers support for all school contexts—rural or urban—with a focus on delivering high-quality, enquiry-based geography fieldwork across EYFS to Year 6.
Key outcomes for participants
A clear understanding of how to design and resource a creative, skills-based geography curriculum.
Hands-on experience with fieldwork topics including weather, sustainability, sense of place, ecosystems, rivers, and more.
Access to a broad range of CPD materials, schemes of work, and model activities for school-based use.
Greater confidence and inspiration to lead engaging fieldwork and enquiry-based learning in their own settings.
Progressive teaching on sustainability and climate change
Friday 13 March 2026, online, from £50
More info and book: https://www.rgs.org/events/upcoming-events/teaching-sustainability-climate-change-within-progressive-primary-geography-curriculum/
This online CPD session supports primary geography educators in delivering high-quality, progressive teaching on sustainability and climate change—both in the classroom and through use of school grounds. Aligned with the DfE’s 2025 target for all schools to appoint a sustainability lead and implement a climate action plan, this course offers practical, interactive, and content-rich support for teachers at all experience levels.
Key outcomes for participants:
Increased understanding of sustainability and climate change issues in an educational context
Clear insight into the elements of a progressive, creative, and enquiry-based curriculum.
Practical strategies and examples for teaching sustainability across EYFS to Year 6.
A toolkit of resources, schemes of work, and activities to implement in school settings.
Greater confidence and inspiration to lead and embed sustainability education.
Both events are led by Gyles Morris a leading education consultant who specialises in outdoor learning and who I have worked with in the past. He works nationally and internationally with teachers and children at all stages of learning in variety of indoor and outdoor classroom settings delivering training, workshops and giving keynote speeches.
As founder Director of Naturesbase, he is a true example of someone who ‘walks the talk’. He trained as a landscape architect designing formal and informal spaces and school grounds for people to positively interact with, then retrained as a teacher and has spent over 25 years engaging and inspiring pupils, students and teachers in the outdoor environment
