Toyota at Burnaston - new news....

Many teachers who have used the Key Geography textbooks will be familiar with the Toyota plant near Derby. The Key Geography website includes a link to this BBC article.

In today's INDEPENDENT there was a story about Toyota cutting back production and also pay at the factory, plus a BBC NEWS feature.

Why is this happening ?
Is it just Toyota who are doing this, or is there a trend amongst other car manufacturers ?

Why are people buying fewer cars ? What are the costs involved in owning a car ? How does owning a car connect you to other parts of the world ? Is car ownership sustainable ? 

This might be a longer term project for 'gifted and talented' or perhaps just for everybody...
Take a look at the textbooks that are in use in a department, and then look for 2 or 3 new resources that update the story from that moment in time when the book was printed, which might in some cases have been before the student was born...
