My new friend Murray....

Spent a few hours a couple of weeks ago in the company of my new friend Murray Fastier, who is Principal Lecturer in Geography Education at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He was over on study leave, and made the effort to travel up to Sheffield to visit us at the Geographical Association.

We talked about the current preparations for changes to the New Zealand National Curriculum, which are going to be introduced into Year 11 from 2011.

There was some discussion on the similarities between the curriculum in the UK and NZ, and the parallels with curriculum change in other countries.

The New Zealand curriculum website includes a similar "big picture" of the curriculum to the one that we had in the UK.
Always worth keeping an eye on the good practice from other countries...
Safe journey home Murray.

There were also some

It was interesting to see the parallels between what is happening in New Zealand and what has happened / is happening in Australia, Singapore, UK etc.
