20 years since Mt Pinatubo eruption...

When I started teaching, it wasn't long before we had a number of events that would remain as classic case studies, and be taught for some time afterwards.

Thanks to James Reynolds (@typhoonfury) for the reminder that it is 20 years ago today that Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the classic eruption which produced a global ash cloud. I am also reminded of a visiting student that we had at that time in the class. He was an American, and his father had been stationed on the US base that was most directly affected. The student brought in a range of images, bags of ash etc. and it was an excellent early taster in the idea that students can also be the best teachers, particularly when their experiences are beyond those of the teachers' own.

Some excellent resources on the BIG THINK site for those who want to remind themselves of the global impact of this eruption: VEIs etc...
