Singapore Smog

From time to time, Asian cities are choked with smog which is different to the usual levels of pollution. In the last few weeks, Singapore has been particularly badly affected. The cause lies hundreds of miles away, in other parts of Indonesia.
This time of year, farmers clear land for cultivation using slash and burn techniques... I used to tell an old joke about getting the process the wrong way round...
You had to be there I suppose.
One of the main drivers of the deforestation is the production of PALM OIL.

Palm Oil is used in many processed foods, particularly items like biscuits.
This is another example where we are 'connected' with distant places and issues.
