New York - Public and private space

Hudson Yards is a new development in New York which has been getting a lot of attention as it is being seen as a playground for the rich, who can buy into what is a private enclave, and avoid having to experience the daily lived experience for millions of New Yorkers.
Place-making is an important part of Geography. I'm interested in the overlap between public and private space in many cities.

The Guardian is not very impressed with this, as are other geographers.
It also goes against the principles of famous New York urban geographers like Jane Jacobs.

As part of the development, Thomas Heatherwick has made a large structure which is being called 'the Vessel' at the moment. It's a sculpture which can be walked on. Google it to see some impressive images of this structure. I'm hoping to take a look.

Tickets for entry to the vessel were sadly already gone for the time I am in the city, although there are some released each day, so I'll take a look.

More to come on this next week...
