New York and William Helmreich

This tweet put me on to the sociologist William Helmreich. The article linked to here can be read on the CityLab website. It appears that he has sadly died of the coronavirus,
William Helmreich lived in New York and spent years visiting virtually every one of its city blocks.
In 2018, a walking guide was published, with some highlights from the Manhattan area, and other books followed. This is the book that started it all.

He is profiled in this piece here, describing his work.

Reading this makes me want to head back to New York and explore some of those neighbourhoods further out from the centre of Manhattan. I did some of that last Easter, but we tended to stay fairly central for most of the time as first-time visitors.
