Caught the news of the Beirut explosion yesterday which was a remarkable and tragic event, involving stored chemicals. Some of the videos are astonishing, including one from a mass which was underway at the time. Lebanon already has some serious food security issues, and this has apparently destroyed a large grain elevator.
The noise was apparently heard in Cyprus.
Consider the noise of Krakatoa though. When it erupted in 1883, it could be heard 3000 miles away, and apparently burst people's eardrums 40 miles away.
