There are signs that recruitment of new teachers is not as high as it needs to be, although the bursary for new geography teachers has been reintroduced, and is at £15 000 for those training in 2022-23.
There is a need for more teachers as sadly not all teachers stay in the profession for very long after training, others have left during the pandemic for a host of reasons, and finally there are a lot of teachers (myself included amazingly) who will be retiring in the next few years (or who are hoping to retire if they can afford to, given financial pressure on continuing the TPS payments for many schools, and other changes to the scheme).
Here's the tweet that led me to this diagram, from Jack Worth:
Geography 😬🙀. Bursary back up to £15k, but still waiting for it to kick in...

I've been fortunate to work with a great many ITE providers over the years. Good luck to all those embarking on an ITE course or other pathway in the next year.
