GAConf22: Disaster by Choice - Ilan Kelman - #111 of many

The latest in a series of posts showcasing sessions which are included in the programme for the GA Conference in April 2022.

This will be a very popular session.

It is being presented virtually at the moment, although Ilan may change his mind nearer the time.

Disaster by choice

We typically think of disasters as unusual, extreme, and surprising, yet disasters are not caused by nature, such as the earthquake or the tornado, but by where and how we live. These everyday conditions of vulnerability are the real disaster and the cause of casualties and damage. These conditions are easily identifiable, predictable and explainable so we should understand ‘disaster’ as being about everyday vulnerability.
