Children's rights in, and to, the city

Lauren Hammond has been working on a research project which is now at the stage where

Childen's Rights In and To the City - book a free ticket here.

This event aims to stimulate discussion about the importance of respecting, valuing, teaching and exploring children’s rights in schools. It begins with an introduction by Professor Hugh Starkey, who will explore the importance of truly engaging with children’s rights in different subjects across the curriculum.

Following this, Dr Lauren Hammond will introduce a small-scale research project entitled ‘children’s rights in, and to, the city: everyday life education and empowerment in London and Glasgow’. The project was funded by IOE’s Early Impact Fellowship scheme and aimed to explore children’s perspectives on their rights in the city in which they lived, and if and how they were empowered through their schooling.

Denise Freeman and Thomas Robertson
will then share their experiences of children’s rights in schools, as a teachers of geography and modern studies respectively. Denise and Thomas also consider how research and policy intersect with their practices in schools.

Professor John Morgan will chair the event and offers concluding comments and suggestions for future research.
