A "long-term science" story I like: In the 1700s, people living on the coast of the Baltic Sea noticed a curious thing... the sea level appeared to be inexplicably falling. Why? 1/9 pic.twitter.com/CLoQNpfSRM

This is an excellent story, which includes a good range of geographical thinking and would be an interesting addition to a scheme of work on glaciation.
The south coast of Iceland is also a great landscape to see the results of isostatic rebound. The old cliff line is the result of isostatic rebound, and waterfalls such as Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss are due to this, rather than the textbook reasons for the creation of a waterfall.
