Dr. Phil Porter - Fawcett Lecture 2023

Earlier in theweek I watched the first Fawcett lecture for a while, which was presented by Dr. Phil Porter, and hosted by Alex Standish.

He works at the University of Hertfordshire. Here's his Twitter page.

Phil‘s work focuses on the response of glaciers to a warming world and in particular, the impacts of warming on meltwater production and delivery. With a sizeable proportion of the world’s population directly or indirectly dependent on snow and ice melt for their water resources, never has this subject been of greater significance.

Phil shared some useful practical activities to demonstrate some key glacial processes.

He also shared some of the 3D imaging that he had captured inside a glacier by abseiling down a moulin.

Check out his site here. There are quite a few useful videos to take a look at.

A few earlier Fawcett lectures are also available to be viewed here.
