An ageing and unhealthy coast

Professor Chris Whitty publishes an annual report on public health in his position as Chief Medical Officer.

This BBC report picks up some of the headlines from this year's report.   


All of these findings are the inevitable consequence of demographics and personal choice. 
They are a sign of the unequal nature of the country identified by Danny Dorling in his latest book 'Shattered Nation'.

Coastal communities often have issues, and need extra support - often the result of previous shortfalls in investment. They lack GP services and school places, as well as investment.

With a few exceptions, many of them need funding.
