RGS Winter Social Dec 5 on the theme of Geography and the Arts
A quick reminder if you haven’t booked that the Eastern area RGS Winter Social event is coming up – on Thursday 5th December.
Details below from RGS East of England Chair, James Firebrace.
At £15 for non RGS members and £10 for young people (25 years old and under) this is fantastic value for money, taking in a welcoming drink of bubbly as well as a good meal of modern cuisine (with vegetarian/vegan options) and some entertaining presentations that are also thought-provoking.
A great programme of creative entertainment with food and drink.
From 7.00 there is a double presentation starting with Eugene Rae, who runs the RGS Archive in London, followed by four of the Sainsbury Centre tour experts.
A great programme of creative entertainment with food and drink.
From 7.00 there is a double presentation starting with Eugene Rae, who runs the RGS Archive in London, followed by four of the Sainsbury Centre tour experts.
Eugene has chosen five objects from the RGS historical collection each of which tells a great and sometime surprising story, while the Sainsbury Centre people will tell the story of a similar number of diverse objects from their collection, chosen with the theme of geographical journeys and each with its own fascinating story of human creativity and resourcefulness.
We’ll then have an hour for the meal and chat.
The final session will be six Sainsbury Centre experts leading mini ‘Spotlight’ tours around the main Gallery, each with a geographical region as its theme – the Artic, Oceana, Sub-Saharan Africa, Japan, pre-Columbian America etc. The evening is not just to introduce new people to RGS East but also to the wealth of superb indigenous material held in the Gallery – the best collection in the UK outside the big London museums.
We aim to finish the evening at 9.30.
I shall be attending and hope to see some of you there. It sounds like being a really good evening.
