Some countries that have historically relied on oil for their economic development are now looking to a future post peak-oil (although that is not looking like being any time soon for the USA now...). This is an area that I have been writing about for a while now.
Petrostates are those whose economy relies on oil.
They are now working out what their post-oil, diversified economy may be based around. One such state is Qatar. For this work they need a plan and Qatar's is shown below.

It would be useful to consider with students how a country could transition from a reliance on one particular resource to diversity its economy.
