AI: risky business

Tim Price Walker has produced a nice piece on LinkedIn exploring the use of AI in Geography.

The core strengths of geography—the ability to analyse, connect, and synthesise information across places and spaces—are more essential than ever. These foundational skills empower us to engage with a changing world, and, importantly, they remain our anchor as new dimensions of reality emerge.

Today, alongside the physical and human realms, we encounter a virtual layer that increasingly shapes our daily lives. This virtual world, formed by digital landscapes, interconnected systems, and AI-driven spaces, offers another field to explore. Far from undermining traditional geography, it enhances our ability to understand complex, interconnected environments that impact both physical places and human experiences.

The diagram shows future global risks and you can see AI is featured in the top-right quadrant.
