Canal Boat Diaries - Series 6

I'm a fan of Robbie Cumming's 'slow TV' series which follows his life on the 'Naughty Lass' as he makes his way around the UK's river and canal network. He's been living on his boat for 10 years.

It's a mixture of biography / history / social commentary and some geography along the way as he makes his journeys.

In many places, the canals are not obvious as they weave their way through cities or behind warehouses. Even in Manchester on Canal Street,  When I lived in Huddersfield to do my degree, I crossed a canal each day - as it wound through the town and past the Polytechnic. Robbie made his way there on one of his journeys and parked across the road from some familiar places.

I'm familiar with more of the canals that he has travelled along too, although he hasn't yet made it along the local waterways into Cambridgeshire and the Fens - where there are fewer locks to navigate.

He's also been along the Leeds-Liverpool canal via Saltaire into Leeds, which I cycled along completing a Mission:Explore project in association with Arla. This took place during my freelance days in 2012, and a project like this was a financial necessity as well as a chance for creativity.

This was a project I remember fondly and there's very little online about it. I took a few pictures on my journeys which included following all the canals out from Leeds, and this was the pass that I downloaded to allow me to cycle along the old tow path.
