Welcome to another Worldly Wednesday.
This one has been mostly spent in London.
Check it out.
An early train down to the capital, and to Covent Garden for Foyles and Stanfords.
I'd been after a chunky book for a while called 'Maps on Vinyl' and they had signed copies in stock which is excellent. While I was there, I saw another excellent book on the geopolitics of Greenland. So that had to be purchased too obviously.
Down to the BFI IMAX.
This is the largest cinema screen in the country. Paul Thomas Anderson made 'Magnolia', one of the best films ever made, and this new one definitely resonates with events currently taking place in the USA. The Guardian review here gives a good taste of the themes that it explores.
There's some great performances, particularly from Sean Penn. I went into this without watching the trailer or knowing much about the film at all and thought it was terrific. Definitely full of not-suitable-for-school language.
Here's the trailer, watch with caution if you are thinking of seeing the film:
Then it was a walk across London past some famous landmarks that many of the visitors in the city would have perhaps spent longer paying attention to: Eros, Pall Mall, Buckingham Palace, Harrods etc.
Food and a drink and then past the Royal Geographical Society and to the Royal Albert Hall for the 2nd of 4 nights when Sigur Rós were in the house with an orchestra. I saw another concert with the same set up a few years ago at the Royal Festival Hall, and there were a few changes in the set list. Notably, there was the first performance of a song called Ára bátur the previous evening with Anna Lapwood.
I was so pleased that they played this song with its amazing crescendoes in the perfect acoustics of the Hall as seen from the Rausing Circle. Quite a Wednesday all in all.
