Welcome to another Worldly Wednesday. The first one of 2026 and the 50th in total.
As usual on Wednesday there's a new Substack published.
I've been back at school for 2 days - the first of which was an INSET day, and which I failed to reach due to the snow and ice on the roads out of my village.
This is the start of the National Year of Reading 2026.
- Only 1 in 3 (32.7%) children and young people aged 8 to 18 say they enjoy reading in their free time
- Only 1 in 5 (18.7%) say they read something daily in their free time
I spent some time reading today.
- Reading research papers on the emotional impacts of climate change on young people and efforts to mitigate those. This is related to the ERASMUS project I have mentioned before on the blog.
- Also reading and writing some new resources for the Discover Geography project.
- Also some report writing for students, and work around the next phase of the Curriculum and Assessment Review.
I also tried to work out the best way to get to Kiel later in the year. It's quite a trek it seems via Hamburg with limited flights.
