Virtual work experience - new RGS resource launches 9th of March

The RGS will be launching some virtual work experience resources on the 9th of March. They have been working with SpringPod on these materials which sound really exciting.

You can sign up to the resources on the link once they go live. They include the following

Introduction to careers using geography
Discover what geography really means and how it helps us make sense of people, places and the environment. You’ll explore what studying geography looks like at different stages, from A Level to university degrees and apprenticeships. By the end, you’ll see how geography opens doors to many opportunities and connects you to jobs that solve real-world challenges.

Hazards and risk in the real world
Step into the world of volcanoes, earthquakes, storms and floods and find out how geographers help predict and respond to them. You’ll see how experts use data, modelling and analysis to understand risk and protect communities. Through real examples, you’ll uncover the people and organisations working behind the scenes to keep us safe.

Shaping cities and communities
Explore how towns and cities grow, change and adapt and what it takes to design places where people can live well. You’ll dive into urban planning, regeneration, sustainability and the challenges of creating places that work for everyone. This module shows how geographers shape the future of the spaces we use every day.

Sustainable resources
Find out how our essential resources are produced, protected and made sustainable for the future. You’ll explore the challenges facing global energy, clean water and food security and how geographers help solve them. From renewables to food production to pollution, this module reveals the green skills needed to change the world.

Mapping the world with GIS
Take a closer look at the technology that maps our world and keeps it moving. You’ll discover how GIS, drones, satellite data and digital mapping support everything from transport planning to emergency response. This module opens your eyes to the fast-growing geospatial careers shaping the decisions we make every day.

Employability skills
No matter where you see yourself working in the future, strong employability skills will help you get there. This module is all about the key skills that employers value – like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving – and how you can start developing them now. You’ll learn how these skills work together in real jobs, reflect on your own strengths, and make a plan to build the areas you want to improve.
