New fieldwork videos from Time for Geography

The Time for Geography team have created and shared two new videos which are introduced by Richard Phillips, who has written and researched a lot about fieldwork.

Qualitative skills

In this first video, hear from Professor Richard Phillips (University of Sheffield) on the importance of qualitative techniques. We then head out into the field in the town of Ipswich to demonstrate two powerful qualitative fieldwork techniques for investigating the geographical impacts of urban change: Rephotography and Soundscape Analysis.

Geography students and teachers wishing to undertake their own Re-photography fieldwork in Ipswich can find the historical photographs used in this video by visiting the Ipswich Society's Flickr page.

Quantitative skills

Hear from Dr Deepak Gopinath (University of the West of England) on the importance of quantitative techniques. We then head back into the field in the town of Ipswich to demonstrate a simple but powerful quantitative technique for investigating the geographical impacts of urban change: Pedestrian Analysis.
