Euromomo - over 35 000 deaths due to heatwaves

A recent report which has been published in a number of newsletters suggests an estimate of 35 000 excess deaths which can be attributed to the heatwave. 

Remember that this will not necessarily be put down as the 'cause of death', but weeks of high temperatures can lead to problems with the heart and other organs, and be a real issue for those with underlying health conditions, the elderly and the very young.

Mortality data across the EU is collected and visualised by Euromomo.

Just last year, a Guardian report warned this level of heat related deaths in England and Wales could happen 'by the 2070s'...
