iPhone in Geography Education

Could this just be the best new piece of technology that is available for geography teachers ?
A growing number of geography teachers are discovering the joys of the iPhone.
Increasingly, the ways that they use them in their geography lessons and fieldwork are also being added to blogs and other online materials, perhaps because teachers who own iPhones are more inclined to use technology in their teaching ?

Some examples of teachers who are using this include Ollie Bray, who has posted a series of useful tutorials on how he uses particular apps for the iPhone.
I would also recommend John Davitt's iPhone app: the RANDOM ACTIVITY GENERATOR, which is demonstrated here...

Do you have an iPhone ?
Do you use it in your teaching ?
Please get in touch...

Alan - I have had a iPhone for a week now and I'm impressed!

I have been doing some research into making quizzes and then sharing them with students. I'll be posting about in on www.geogalot.net over the next couple of days.

Thanks Rich - I know quite a few of the 'usual suspects' have one, and I have a feeling that there's some great potential for geographers here above other curriculum subjects...
Look forward to seeing what you do with it...

The seismograph app is great - creating earthquakes in the classroom. Get pupils to jump of chairs etc and use the iphone under a visualiser.

Also use the decibel app to measure road noise - noise pollution, in the classroom also using a visualizer so all can see it.

Also think there is great potential for using as a teacher together with Twitter (I use Twitterific on the iPhone) for conducting primary research enquiries, however there needs to be a big enough network online at the same time. Maybe this could be prearranged before hand. Real-time data collection - 'What cultural impacts of tourism did you see on your last holiday?'

Also needs a school that do not ban mobile devices.
