Conference venue today in York was the Royal York hotel. The Oak Room was the main room for the day, and it had a bookcase full of old books. Had a quick look (I can't help browsing through any bookcase I see) and came across an excellent book, which caught my eye.It was published in 1912 by the University Tutorial Press.
The author was James Welton
The book was called "Principles and Methods of Teaching"
