Here's one that got away...
Almost 2 years ago, Tom Barrett and I discussed an idea for a Google Earth grant. They were offering cash to start up projects using Google Earth in innovative ways...
We came up with an idea called STORYBOOK EARTH, which would gather and geolocate children's stories.
If anyone would like to give us some cash to get the idea off the ground, feel free to get in touch :)

would this not qualify for something like RGS funding, or do they not fund projects like this anymore? I remember several people on sln talking about RGS-IBG awards a while ago. Lovely idea, by the way

I'm not sure whether we thought about an RGS-IBG Innovative Geography teaching grant or not. The grant we wanted was for more than the RGS give out, which is limited to about £800. To do what we wanted was going to take more than that.
I've had 3 of the RGS-IBG grants over the years, one for the original GeoBlogs project back in 2003, one for Google Earth Users Guide project in 2005, and a share of the Geography of Happiness in 2007...
