With my Year 8 students, we have been following the development of Boyan Slat's booms which are designed to capture plastic which is being swirled around the Great Pacific Gyre.We watched the TED talk that Boyan confidently gave back in 2012, since when investment has allowed trials of the booms which will be able to collect huge volumes of plastic soup from the places where they are installed.
