GA eConference 2020 - Day 1

This got underway today, and the sessions are free to view on the GA's YouTube Channel which is growing nicely, and now has over 300 subscribers.
The day started with Gill Miller's excellent Presidential Lecture, introduced by Susan Pike.

Followed by the Awards ceremony. Lovely to see Anthony Barlow, Steve Rawlinson and others rewarded for their lengthy support of the GA and its work. Also excellent that Richard Bustin's GeoCapabilities book received a Silver Award. It's a splendid book.

Patrick Rickles spoke about Geography's role within Government and the Civil Service, and his interesting career path.

I then took part in a panel discussion, chaired by Gill Miller, with Bob Digby, Paula Owens and Simon Ward from the FSC. We discussed some of the implications of working from home during this time with advice for students, parents and teachers. It seems to have gone down well.

The day finished with Paul Rose talking about the power of Geography, and his teacher, Mr. Grey, who changed the course of his life. I loved how he ended his talk by opening a bottle of champagne and raising a toast to Mr. Grey and all geography teachers... Thanks Paul.

Looking forward to the full day of sessions tomorrow, finishing with the Teachmeet at 6pm.
I shall be blogging during the day and tweeting over on GeoBlogs of course...
