The third event I attended was Tim Harford.The Next 50 things that made the Modern Economy is a sequel to the first 50 things, which included plastic and the shipping container.
The format would also make a nice one for students to explore, although perhaps limit it to 5 things to begin with. Some interesting ideas here, although I missed part of the talk, and it got a little sidetracked into current news stories rather than the objects in the book and how they were selected.
