A nice piece written by geographer Jessica McLean.
It can be read in this online magazine here. It relates to a painting, which is reproduced in the article which depicted wildfires in Gippsland, an area in Victoria. The painting and the piece would make a useful artefact for exploring landscape management.
There is also a research paper that is mentioned and can be found here.
With regards to the naming of the area for example. It is named after George Gipps, the New South Wales Governor, who sponsored an expedition by a Polish explorer called Pawel Strzelecki.
This is despite the land being the property of Indigenous Australians of the Gunai and Bunurong nations.
Thanks to Susan Caldis for the tipoff to this.
