"Travelling helps the curious and attentive itinerant understand how deep the notion goes that one place is never actually like another. Travelling encourages the revision of received wisdoms and the shedding of prejudices. It helps one understand that all people do not want to be on the same road. They prefer to be on their own road.”

One of the great disasters of our schism from the EU has been the loss of the Erasmus scheme. Apparently, it's too expensive. But thousand of times more can be spent on unused and inadequate PPE. Thousands of young people will be robbed of the chance to travel in reciprocal visits and also for academics and other people to work with their counterparts in other European countries.
Barry Lopez's most recent work finds him travelling to the ends of the earth in search of hope.
