Antarctica Now has been organised by the clothing company Shackleton, which makes rather fine clothing. I have a jumper which is one of my favourite items of warm winter gear. They have set up a virtual festival of talks which runs through the rest of the week. They can be watched live, or repeated afterwards.
The first talk was by Professor Klaus Dodds, and explores the geopolitics of the continent. It is a very clear and detailed exploration of the way that Antarctica has been governed over the years, and the nature of power in the continent.
A new Cold War? Why the Antarctic is on the brink of an international power struggle.
It is also worth reading an additional post on the mapping created by Peter Fretwell.
