GA Magazine - Spring 21 Issue

Amnother excellent issue of the GA Magazine is now with GA members (or on its way) and the digital PDF version can be downloaded from the website.

Pleased as always to have made some contributions to this issue, as I have for well over ten years with my Webwatch columns, where I have a couple of pages (or more) to explore websites, apps and other web based content and projects.

As always there are plenty of useful updates for all GA members. If you are not a member, you can join in a number of ways, and this is the 'basic' journal.

There are a number of things worth mentioning, particularly an article I contributed on the resources that have been produced to accompany Census 2021.

Susan Pike and Alan Kinder provide an update on GA activity with respect to Policy Matters, and touch on one particularly concerning aspect which has emerged in the last month or so: the proposed 'plan' for assessing this summer's public examinations.

Examination marking should be done externally, where thousands of candidates' responses can be used to ensure that any marks are subjected to checks. Even this system results in errors and issues which crop up regularly. What will the appeals process be like? How will teachers be expected to mark potentially hundreds of papers, for no extra money (?) and continue to teach effectively. What of those who rely on examination income?

There are details of GA CPD events, GeogPod sessions, the PG SIGs photography competition winners are showcased, and also details of new and forthcoming GA publications.
