An interesting story has been unearthed by the Independent.
The Home Office apparently set up a 'fake' website which offered 'reliable information' for migrants and tried to dissuade people from crossing to the UK, but didn't share any government affiliation, and made an attempt to hide it in fact.
According to the Independent article:
A Freedom of Information request by the PA news agency revealed it paid £23,200 for targeted adverts to be placed on Facebook and Instagram in English, Kurdish, Arabic, Persian and Pashto between December and April, all linked to the On The Move website and carrying slogans including “don’t put your or your child’s life in danger”, “we will return you” and “there is no hiding place”There is some information on the website here.
The website is still actually up at the time of writing.
Another misguided Government act that has been uncovered - there have been so many recently it's hard to keep up.
