The Yorkshire Shepherdess

Simon Armitage talking to Amanda Owen was excellent listening.

The Poet Laureate in his shed is a series on BBC Sounds.

Amanda describes growing up in Newsome.

When I did my degree in Huddersfield I lived on Tunnacliffe Road on the edge of Newsome and used to wander up and over the brow of the hill at weekends, past the mill and down to the fish and chip shop - or head for some Ben Shaws from the corner shop (now disappeared)

On nature, Amanda says:

"If you don't have a passion for it, if you don't love it, if you don't embrace it, how can you do the right thing by it.... you have to put the work in to make that happen."
