John Freeman on Barry Lopez

Regular readers of the blog over the last 13 years will know of my love of the work of the author Barry Lopez, who died on Christmas Day, 2020.

Pieces remembering Barry and his influence are beginning to emerge, and this one was published in Orion Magazine recently.

This quote jumped out at me:

"....imagination enters when there is a gap between knowing and not knowing.

This gap exists constantly in Lopez’s work; it’s where wonder emerges. It’s where hope exists."

"To put your hands in a river is to feel the chords that bind the earth together."

Barry Holstun Lopez,1945-2020
