South Georgia Updates

Two years ago, I worked on some resources for the South Georgia Heritage Trust. They are available here. They were launched at the SAGT Conference, two years ago this week.

A VR tour has been created for the islands now, which would have been a useful addition to the unit that was created. This is one of the issues when teaching such locations - to explore them with people who haven't got much idea of their landscapes.

Peter Morse created the tour, which is embedded at the bottom of the post.

Also Shackleton resource has been added as there is a Virtual Shackleton event.

Finally, there was a story last week about the impact of the disappearance of krill from the usual feeding grounds on some of the wildlife on the islands for which this is a major food source. A reminder of the different interconnections across huge distances which influence an ecosystem like this.

Don't forget also that South Georgia was placed on the green list for tourism during the lockdowns, despite it having no tourist accommodation, and the fact that it was winter at the time.

Here's a 3D scene to finish this little update.
