GA Annual Report 2020-21

The most recent report on the GA's activities is now available to view on the GA website.

The Geographical Association (GA) published its annual report today, covering the most recent reporting period from September 2020 to August 2021. The report details the breadth and depth of the GA’s charitable work in pursuit of its mission to ‘further geographical knowledge and understanding through education’.

During the year under review, the GA supported its members in nearly 9,000 schools and 180 Higher Education Institutions nationally, whilst also reaching members in over 60 countries globally. It provided Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to over 6,000 teachers in 2000 schools, and also attracted over 130, 000 visits to its new Geography Education Online (GEO) service for GCSE and A level students.

GA Chair of Trustees, Olwen Lintern-Smyth, said:

"The range of activities achieved during the ongoing pandemic is a testament to the commitment and hard work of our members, volunteers and staff. With so much disruption to education, the GA used its voice and expertise throughout 2020-21 to represent the needs of teachers and pupils in national decision-making forums, and maintained its focus on good practice in geographical teaching through the networks, CPD and specialist support offered.

"We harnessed the use of technology to maintain connections and to run a successful online Annual Conference and, thanks to a grant from Innovate UK, to create Geography Education Online. This was the first year of our new strategic plan, and we started to deliver against the three strategic aims. Work will continue next year, taking into account the feedback gathered from our members."
