The latest in a series of posts showcasing sessions which are included in the programme for the GA Conference in April 2022.
"While walking the land, I am the pen on the paper; while drawing this map, my pen is myself walking the land. I wanted to short circuit the polarities of objectivity and subjectivity, and try keep faith with reality."
Tim Robinson
This session sounds of particular interest with its connection to an author that I have read for many years. It references the work of Tim Robinson, who wrote a series of books providing a very detailed description of the landscapes of Connemara. Every feature as he walked around the coast of the Aran Island, across the Burren and through Connemara are described in these dense books.
Detailed maps of the areas 'mapped' by Tim are also now available.
Here's a brief session description:
Walking in the footsteps of geographers such as Tim Robinson, this session will begin by following the contours of a community to hear unheard student voices. We will explore strategies for teaching Tier 3 vocabulary – strategies often trapped in unseen crevices. The session will conclude with examples of how language and a community’s landscape move together.

Sadly, Tim passed away due to COVID19 in 2020.
There is plenty of intersectional work on landscapes to explore here.
