I loved this anecdote on Alan Garner.
Alan Garner is one of the greatest writers and is known to have inspired a great many others, including Robert MacFarlane.
He is wonderful in his ability to create of a sense of place, particularly for the area around Alderley Edge, where he has lived for all his life, although he has also written of other locations in books such as 'The Owl Service' and 'Elidor'.
I read his most recent book 'Treacle Walker' just before Christmas. A lovely little creation to pair with earlier books such as 'The Stone Book Quartet'. Check them out, along with 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen' of course with its famous claustrophobic passages in the caves below the Edge.
