GAConf22: All models are wrong - #109 of many

The latest in a series of posts showcasing sessions which are included in the programme for the GA Conference in April 2022. 

The significance and accuracy of some of the models that we refer to in geography is an area that has been explored before, and comes back from time to time. I remember Charles Rawding's analysis of Burgess. GA members can access this free of charge. 

Demographic Transition Models and others are open to criticism, but remain on the specifications and so need to be taught.

Are models used in geography creating misconceptions in our teaching? How do we know if a diagram or model is useful? 

How do we use it as a tool to aid our teaching and how do we know when it’s time to put a model in the bin?
