RGS / FT School Essay Competition 2022

This year's competition for sixth formers has been announced.

The competition is open to sixth form geography students aged 16-18 who are registered to study A Level geography or equivalent in Year 12 or 13 on the closing date.

This year the focus is on the recycling of waste and the environmental costs of our current consumer trends.

Details are here.

Do not try to cover more than one sub-theme. You may make passing references to the sub-themes you have not chosen, but only if such references are brief and relevant to your chosen theme.
Sub-themes:

The environmental cost of online purchase returns

Goods returned by US consumers surged 78% in 2021

Customer returns hit retailer profits but boost shipping companies

The popularity of (and possible problems with) recycled plastics as a component of new clothing/fashion items

Fashion boom in recycled plastic comes with a price tag

The problem of e-waste, including the speed of obsolescence and replacement timescales for electronics goods

Electronic waste — what can designers do?

The competition closes on Monday 3 October 2022, 5.00pm. Entries will not be accepted after this time.

This ties in with our work with Year 8s on recycling plastic waste.
The competition is open to all A Level geography students (or equivalent) aged 16-18.

All entries must be submitted using an online application form.
The winning essay will be published in Routes Journal.

I am using the title for a competition for my Year 8 students, and will share some of the outcomes here after Easter when it is due in.
