This is one of the many findings from Dipo Faloyin's excellent book 'Africa is not a Country' book.
It describes the work of the late activist Bingavanga Wainaina in this area.
A Granta piece which came out of an earlier issue was published. The earlier piece: an 'Africa' special had nobody with any real first-hand experience of the continent which was immediately criticised.
Also check out the chapter in Dipo's book which builds on this event.
Sandra Patterson appreciates the book as well as you can see below:
You need to get your hands on a copy of this book if you haven't already - it's available as an Audible book.
Finished this book today. Wow! It is too important to go onto my bookshelf, it will be passed on to my colleagues on Monday morning.
