Rex Walford Award 2022

It's good to see this opportunity to recognise some innovative practice amongst those new to the profession. We need to improve the rate of applications for ITE courses, and retain those teachers that we already have.

The GA is running the award to celebrate the work of former GA President and teacher educator Rex Walford.

The Geographical Association (GA) wishes to honour the contribution made to initial teacher training/education (ITE) in geography by the late Rex Walford through an award that recognises inspirational and innovative practice.

The award is open to students enrolled on teaching programmes (i.e., PGCE, B.Ed.) or early career teachers with less than two years’ experience (i.e., ECT in England, NQT/RQT in Wales).

Evidence in the form of a Poster Presentation will offer insight of curriculum making and its application to classroom practice in the primary or secondary phase.

Posters should have visual impact, provide detail about and be innovative in terms of approach, subject content or pedagogy.

Submitted posters will be displayed at the 2023 GA Annual Conference Exhibition and the winning poster will be published in the Spring 2023 issue of GA Magazine.
