Wristbands...

Remember 'the Queue' - I wonder if there are any signs of it now, or whether they have all been removed... what memories do people have of the experience now?

Wristbands from 'The Queue' starteds howing up on eBay for tens or even hundreds of pounds... or even thousands apparently (although I'm not convinced anybody paid that much for one)

There are some interesting discussions to be had over why people joined the queue.

More to come on this in future posts. I've been collecting some images and writing on the temporary nature of the queue.

The wristbands are an example of the commodification of the queue...

Was it one of Augé's 'non places' or an actual place?

Some data were collected by researchers who spoke to people in the queue. More on that to come as well.

The disparity between the treatment of queuers and nearby homeless was also something to consider, and led to quite a lot of discussion.

There was also an interesting debate around some of the 'celebrities' who queued and others who 'jumped the queue'... people in the UK are not too tolerant of that, although there is a good number who are fine with doing it.

I'd be interested to hear how much effort some of the people in the queue made to see Her Majesty when she was still alive and visiting a nearby location.

eBay have apparently removed these listings for wristbands as well.

And here's a musical comment on such things from Paul Simon...
